The Linux Foundation wants you to be as productive as possible. As we are a work from home organization we’re aware that the equipment that you have with you at home is vital to the work that you do. Therefore, please see the equipment purchasing guidelines below for types and cost of equipment purchases that are available. Please be aware that all equipment purchases must pass manager approval.
The following are guidelines for equipment purchasing of equipment for employee use. All equipment is subject to manager approval.
Equipment Type | Maximum** |
Workstation / Laptop | $2000** |
Monitor(s) | $500 |
Printer/Scanner | $200 |
We do recommend an Apple MacBook Pro to be your choice in workstation.
We also do recommend purchasing AppleCare for your MacBook
You can get started with reimbursements once you have met with HR to discuss access to their systems
**Additional cost can be approved by your manager
Equipment Purchase Policy: In order to make sure that each employee has modern equipment to work with, the LF will reimburse up to $2,000 USD for home office set-up, which includes the purchase of a laptop. Any excess equipment or requests must be pre-approved by your manager and HR in writing, prior to purchasing.
Laptop Computer: The LF will reimburse an initial computer purchase upon hire up to $1700. After 3 years of using a computer, the LF will again reimburse an employee for a new computer up to $1,700. Any amounts over $1,700 must have written approval by your manager.
Mobile Phone: The LF will reimburse mobile phone purchases up to $500 in cases where the mobile phone model that an employee is using is over 2 years old. This is the case regardless of whether the employee is a new hire or an existing employee.
All equipment purchases must be reimbursed via the expense reimbursement process with receipts included for the new purchases. An employee may buy a computer or phone more expensive than the reimbursement amount and cover the remaining on their own, expensing the maximum amount according to the policy.
